It's easy to pick on the second Woodstock festival, and much of the criticism is deserved. Woodstock '94 collects one track from 27 of the artists that performed at the festival, which might sound fine in theory, but fails miserably in practice, mainly because the tracks included are generally terrible. Because of contractual agreements, the album is comprised of also-rans, obscurities and only a couple of hits. For instance, Nine Inch Nails shine on "Happiness in Slavery," but who needs to hear Blind Melon's "Soup"? Most of the two discs are filled with "Soup," which makes sorting out the gems particularly tedious. As a concert memento, Woodstock '94 captures the schizophrenia of the show, but it's never enjoyable listening.
