Recorded simply with the duo of Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie, Head Over Heels nevertheless represents a major leap over the Cocteau Twins' earliest work. Fraser's vocals are more assured, and the songs begin to strive as much for substance as atmosphere -- "Sugar Hiccup" and "Musette and Drums" mark a move toward more concrete melodies, while "In Our Angelhood" breaks the album's gently hypnotic mood with an agreeably uptempo rhythm. [Head Over Heels was reissued on CD with the Sunburst and Snowblind EP added as a bonus.]
