In the 1980s, Americans had two very different images of Australian artists, who were thought of as either quirky new wavers like Men at Work or sweaty, guitar-powered rockers a la AC/DC. The Kings of the Sun clearly fell into the latter category. AC/DC was a strong influence on the Kings, whose Full Frontal Attack may not be the most groundbreaking album in the world, but isn't lacking when it comes to passion and a healthy sense of fun. Although AC/DC's influence is evident on infectious smokers like "Haunt You Baby" and "Lock Me Up," this isn't a heavy metal album per se, and the truth is that the Aussies' gritty, unpretentious style is also indebted to the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. The Kings never became very big in the U.S., but Full Frontal Attack proves that it certainly wasn't due to a lack of enjoyable songs.
