This is one of those bands where the name sounds very familiar but I can't seem to place the band. They have been around for a while considering this is their fifth album but I still can't seem to remember where I have heard of them. Well in any case it doesn’t really matter and at this point I am simply rambling.
The band hail from Sweden and play some very heavy death metal that almost crosses into grind. Blast beats are the order of the day without much variation from one song to another. Vocals are of the very low growling variety (think Cannibal Corpse or Six Feet Under). The area that keeps this firmly in the death metal genre is the guitar work. Although fast for the most part it still has some very distinguishable riffs. The lead work is also pretty good considering the speed on display throughout the rest of the album. The one thing that kept this from getting a higher rating is simply the lack of variety. It is hard to tell where one song ends and another begins. There are certainly slight differences between songs but the overall speed makes quite a bit of this sound repetitive after a while. If they were to slow down a bit here and there I would have liked this album a bit more. A perfect example of this is track 5 "God is Dead" where they slow down a little and almost get a thrash kind of groove going. It is easily the best song on the album and something that I think they should do a little more often.
Overall this album will appeal to the fans of extreme death metal but for those looking for a greater variety in their music you may want to look elsewhere.
