Blast from the Past Review by Paul Pearson

An inoffensive selection of tunes from an Alicia Silverstone/Brendan Fraser comedy about a guy who emerges, after 35 years, from a bomb shelter into the '90s. Lots of throwback selections from swing revival bands like Squirrel Nut Zippers and Cherry Poppin' Daddys, but only one legitimate '50s artifact by Perry Como. Not surprisingly, most of the newer artists on this comp are Capitol Records artists like Everclear, Block and Tommy Henriksen. Neatly fitting into the nuclear holocaust theme of the movie are REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know It" and Randy Newman's "Political Science," classics which you can find on their own, better albums.
