Kind of a cool tribute to the Kiss spaceman which seems to have fallen by the wayside, despite several keen cuts and the obligatory custom plectrum inclusion (autographed by forgotten Frehley's Comet guitarist Richie Scarlet). Return of the Comet is primarily for the hardcore, but are there any other this late in the game? Extraneous alumni like Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer take yet another stab at success outside the Kiss circus, while the L.A. Guns warhorse and the impeached Presidents of the United States run through familiar Frehley fireworks. Former Comet frontman and Cheap Trick sideman Tod Howarth drive down Streetheart's "Dancing With Danger" for the second time. Diamond "Dimebag" Darrell digs into "Snowblind," while Gilby Clarke hops the ace cut "Rocket Ride" (like most axemen, as singers these boys are great guitarists). Even some classy femmes (Dallas Remple, Emily Bishton) take this trip. Plus, a Frehley's Comet reunion (minus the man himself) provides some actual thrills. Overall, Return of the Comet delivers a pretty good time from some pretty obscure talent.
