With power-driven distortion, buzzing textures, and twirling sound effects, Inner Sleeve creates Looking Up, reflecting on past early-'90s influences such as Chapterhouse and U.K. bands Loop and Sun Dial. This British underground indie band brings forth a platoon of hurricane-like guitar and bass tones with dynamic, complex percussive rhythms to stimulate the listener and fan alike. Also an influence on this nine-song collection is the shoegaze sound from the early '90s. Much of the material is upbeat, compelling, and inspiring, such as the single "Come Alive," with tantalizing guitar swirls, raving basslines, and intricate percussive patterns. Inner Sleeve should be proud of their perseverance and dedication, as their hard work payed off. The framework of the songs does contain striking pop-flavored melodies, genuine hooks, and radiant, tight vocal harmonies. Even a hint of the psychedelic is added for color, turning this record more so into a work of art. Give a big hand for Simon Scott and Paul Flye for putting together the record in fine fashion. This is a big step for the future of British indie pop and psychedelic rock.
