The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers [Original Soundtrack] Review by William Ruhlmann
The soundtrack to this pre-adolescent adventure film is an uneven collection highlighted by characteristically quirky contributions by Devo ("Are You Ready?") and They Might Be Giants ("SenSurround"), but otherwise filled with retreads including a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" by Red Hot Chili Peppers and a 1978 recording of "Free Ride" by its author, Dan Hartman. Worst of all are several specially written songs with a metal/hard rock edge, especially the theme song "Go Go Power Rangers," by the Power Rangers Orchestra. It's enough to make you long for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who will soon be joined in oblivion by the Power Rangers.
