AllMusic Review by Roch Parisien
Led by Rick Boston, L.A.'s Low Pop Suicide works up an edgy, disconcerting sound for second album The Death of Excellence, kind of like itching powder set to an interesting soundtrack. Favorite "Philo's Snag" sets crackly guitar to a dramatic violin backing and such upbeat lyrics as "we all share the ground/and the food we eat/and the nails that we hang from/have been kept clean/I hate to confess/that the rats won the race...." Intelligent, dark, but not dour.
