The last time I heard the name Unwritten Law was back in 2011 when they released “Swan”. Don’t know what they’ve been up to since, but apparently they weren’t busy writing a new album. Instead they have now released “Acoustic”, which - as the title suggests - is an acoustic album. Although acoustic might be something of a stretch. Tracks like “Celebration” and “Nevermind” sound more like remixes. And pretty bad ones at that.
In total, “Acoustic” comes with 13 tracks, 11 of which are acoustic versions of previously released tracks, one song written by Scott Russo (“Belongs To You”) and a cover of MSTRKRFT/John Legend’s “Heartbreaker”. Honestly, none of these tracks leave even the slightest of impressions and have zero redeeming value. I mean, that version of “Up All Night” or the schmaltzy “Seeing Red” or “I Like The Way? Dreadful. Absolutely dreadful.
Why they chose to record this instead of bothering to come up with some new songs is beyond me.
