In Greek mythology satyrs were excessively fond of women, drink, and song, so you can only imagine what debauchery Satan’s pals get into.
In this case Satan’s Satyrs are from Virginia, the state for lovers, and the state that produced proto-metal legends Pentagram. The foundation of their sound doesn’t stray too far from the master’s in terms of sludgey doom riffs, but on the new record, “The Lucky Ones” the quartet produce a demonic hybrid of stoner glam psychedelic metal punk, and holy shit does it ever work.
Like the satyr for which they are named, their music is a mutation formed with the glam fuzz of T Rex, the metal of Trouble, the psychedelic heaviness of Blue Cheer, and some garage punk DNA for good measure.
I’ve heard “The Lucky Ones” might alienate some fans looking for a typical doom sludge record but really if you listen closely to both records Satan’s Satyrs put out in 2015: “Die Screaming” and “Don’t Deliver Us” the Stoogey NWOBHM doom glam punk was lurking so there should be no surprise. Besides this is just wicked stuff.
