Misunderstood and underappreciated, Love/Hate made a career out of being pissed off. But whilst their first two albums were buoyed by a resigned, yet good-humored acceptance of their predicament, 1993's Let's Rumble takes a disturbing detour into all-out bitterness. And can you blame them? Dropped by Columbia despite a strong debut and a decent second album, the foursome certainly had reason to be angry. Let's Rumble has its fair share of good songs in the title track, "Spinning Wheel," and "Sexical," but a rather thin production job (courtesy of the musicians themselves) tends to steal Love/Hate's thunder. The soul-baring honesty of "If You Believe in Miracles" is another rare highlight, but the ominous ticking away of the last few seconds of Love/Hate's 15 minutes is almost palpable in the uninspired apathy of the remaining material.
