Marky Mark tried to keep riding the wave he had enjoyed with Music for the People, but failed to score any pop or R&B hit, finding that it's much tougher to find another hit to scavenge or maintain a gimmick the second time around. He eventually enjoyed moderate success with "You Gotta Believe," but a combination of some ill-timed homophobic remarks in an interview and rather limp material like "I Run Rhymes" extinguished whatever fires Marky Mark had previously lit.
