The dance-pop and urban contemporary markets can be incredibly fickle, and no one knows that better than Shannon. The singer was quite popular from 1983-1985, but by the end of the 1980s, she was considered a has-been. And that's regrettable because even though Shannon wasn't in a class with big-voiced dance divas like Loleatta Holloway and Gloria Gaynor, she was a likable singer who provided her share of infectious dance grooves. Produced by the Mark Liggett/Chris Barbosa team, Shannon's second album, Do You Wanna Get Away, was among the most memorable dance-pop/urban releases of 1985. Liggett and Barbosa generally served Shannon well on her first album, Let The Music Play, and they also do right by her on this generally pleasing sophomore effort. Anyone who seriously craves dance music would have a hard time not moving to the hit title song, the haunting "Stop the Noise" or Shannon's remake of Foreigner's "Urgent." Shannon doesn't fare as well on the slow jam "Bedroom Eyes"-ballads and slow jams had a way of illustrating her limitations as a vocalist-but most of the time, ShannonLiggett and Barbosa are a strong combination on the singer's second album.
