Despite the presence of guitarists Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine, Matthew Sweet's second album, Earth, remains a spotty affair. Like Inside before it, Earth has an overly glossy production, as well as a set of songs that are, by and large, forgettable -- in fact, the songs on the second album are even more undistinguished than the ones on the previous record.
