Released shortly after MTV decided to pull the plug on the show, Yo! MTV Raps: Hits is a fine collection of some of the biggest hip-hop hits of the '90s. Concentrating on pop crossovers, but throwing in a couple of hip-hop hits like Lost Boyz' "Jeeps, Lex, Coups, Bimaz and Benz" for good measure, the album is an entertaining cross-section of mid-'90s rap, running the gamut from gangsta to jazz-rap. Not everything here is well-known -- the Method Man soundtrack obscurity "The Riddler" is here instead of "I'll Be There for You / You're All I Need To Get By," his number one duet with Mary J. Blige -- and there are a few dogs scattered throughout, but Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, L.L. Cool J, 2Pac, Lil' Kim, Junior Mafia, Foxy Brown and Outkast make Yo! MTV Raps: Hits a compilation worth acquiring.
