"Drugs," the single from Mint 400, got quite a bit of alternative-radio airplay, and it's a good example of the simplistic but hooky post-grunge (barely) Ammonia typically deals with. They've backed away from grunge mainly through a melodic influence -- most of the songs on Mint 400 sound like a more rocked-out version of the Posies ("Ken Carter"), or the major-label work of Superdrag ("Mint 400"). The album sounds best when the band sinks into slow, dreamy drama ("Little Death") or rages ahead with a straightforward pop song ("Suzi Q"). Mint 400 is fairly average late-1990s "alternative" pop -- radio-friendly but a bit plain.
