AllMusic Review by Anthony Tognazzini
While Shadows Fall perfected their ferocious, technically sharp brand of death metal on later albums like 2006’s FALLOUT FROM THE WAR and 2007’s THREADS OF LIFE, OF ONE BLOOD establishes the blueprint on which the group’s later successes are based. On cuts like “Pain Glass Vision” and “Root Bound Apollo,” listeners will hear Shadows Fall’s unique blend of thrash backbone, progressive metal precision, and classic metal influences (the dual guitar attack on many tracks recalls Iron Maiden or Judas Priest). Yet the double bass drum pummeling and the alternately growled and yelled vocals attest to Shadows Fall’s place (and subsequent rise) in contemporary metal.

  1. Nice ! I'm hard to please with death. I listen very few (Arch enemy, Carcass, Children of Bodom, Dark tranquility, Gojira, Opeth, In flames). Note that Gojira is a French band from my area :) If you are interrested in some good French bands, don't hesitate to ask !

    1. Buck likes all of the extreme metal. I'm very sure he knows the French Death Metal scene. I personally don't listen to any of it with the exception of Traditional Doom Metal which I don't really consider to be part of the extreme sub-genres.

    2. I was speaking of the French scene in general, the only extreme one i know is Gojira. But if you are interrested in French rock bands in general, i would be please to show you my favourites.

    3. Yeah, I know you were. I'm telling you Buck knows Death Metal in general being the American or European scene. France is no exception. If it's Death Metal, he most likely has something on CD.

    4. I do own various French Death Metal albums. Bands like Massacra, Yyrkoon, all old school French Death Metal bands will be available at some point. It's a question of whether or not I can get clean rips from my CD's as most of them are in pretty bad condition.

    5. So you're from Bayonne, Mr. Moon?

    6. I spent 40 years in Paris suburbs, but i didn't stand the city no more. I moved south at 300km from Bayonne. The areas have merged recently, and am now in the same area :)

    7. I never had the occasion / took the time to discover Loudblast or Massacra. Not my kind, but thank you for the discover ;) I remeber having read about Loudblast in the magazines of my teenagehood (is it even a word ?).

    8. It is a word. It's classified as an "uncountable noun" in the English language. Or you can simply use "teen years" That's quite acceptable as well.
