This Tennessee quintet plays heavy rock with the emphasis on "heavy." Singer Josh Brown spits out words with both disdain and confrontation. In short, this is the sort of hard rock that would have evolved from the early '90s had the alternative revolution not put a grinding halt to it. Picking up nearly a decade later, it sounds a bit extreme and dated in its approach. Yet, Full Devil Jacket's somewhat primeval method of turning the rage and amps to 11 -- in an era of Korn Bizkit kids -- is somewhat refreshing. Of course, that doesn't make any of the 11 heavy-handed clunkers on their debut any more pleasing to listen to. The best songs here offer screams, guitars and more screams for a cathartic stew. In the end, though, that mix isn't so much a spicy gourmet treat as it is a bland recipe for drive-through junk food.
