Review by Levi Fuller for Kexp.org
If you're like me, odds are you hear the name Lene Lovich (or, as I recently did, find a copy of this very album in the bins at Goodwill) and instantly hear her distinctively playful yet unabashedly Teutonic voice squeaking out the hook to her best-known song, "Lucky Number." Like so many brilliant artists of the '70s and '80s, however, Lovich has continued being creative and productive over the decades. In fact, she has a new band and a new North American booking agent, and is right this moment teasing us with the prospect of a new batch of shows in our corner of the world.
No Man's Land, released more than thirty years ago, was Lovich's third studio album, and the last before her output became somewhat more sporadic due to the demands of life and family. It's well worth checking out, and certainly worth much more than the dollar I spent at Goodwill.
