While merging extreme metal music with hardcore vocals has become quite commonplace circa the early 21st century, there was a time when merging both styles was unheard of. That was, until Disrupt came along in the late '80s. Although the Boston-based band only released a single full-length during its career, 1994's Unrest (released a year after the band broke up), the album obviously paved the way for countless other similarly styled acts. In 2007, the Relapse label reissued this 30-track blitzkrieg of an album, and 13 years later, it still serves as a very impressive recording. Pick any of the tracks and you're guaranteed to be walloped over the noggin with the group's penchant for intense and heavy ditties, especially "Domestic Prison," "Reality Distortion," and "Religion Is a Fraud." If you're a modern-day hardcore metal fan, it's time to dig a bit deeper and discover where the majority of your favorite bands learned their tricks of the trade.
