Game Tight, the first compilation documenting the artists of Game Recordings, is an uneven collection of artists that take the underground seriously but still maintain an appealing sound. The artist that appears the most is Detroit MC Royce da 5'9", a quick-witted rapper whose raps offer a personal reflection that Motor City rappers have become famous for. From his awesome duets with former partner Eminem to the incredible "Boom" (featuring a fantastic beat courtesy of DJ Premier), Royce is the obvious centerpiece of this compilation. Lord Digga's humorous "My Flow Is Tight" is another highlight, while Agallah's gruff funk anthem "Five Star Milas" recalls the clever lyrical explorations of vintage Ghostface Killah. But sadly, the label offers little else here, instead filling out the rest of the album with somewhat generic contributions that are mostly known for their appearance on the video game Grand Theft Auto III. Although nothing is outwardly bad, the other tracks are far below the standard set by the more innovative artists found here. Still, this makes for a nice sampler for anyone looking into the scene Game is trying to create, but be warned that it isn't a uniform compilation whatsoever.
