Review by Scott Jessup for Sea of Tranquility.org
Germany is home to many fine metal groups, and Rising From The Sea was originally recorded by German thrash metal band Exumer in 1987, moving forward to 2012 and there is a reissue available of this Exumer's second album. Exumer broke up in 1990 and remained quiet with the exception of a live performance in 2001 at the Wacken Open Air Festival, then maybe inspired by the continued popularity of Thrash Metal Exumer did a comeback in 2008 for more live performances. The band must have been enthused as following this touring and after such a long period between albums Exumer released their third full length recording Fire And Damnation this year. I haven't heard this new release to compare to Kreator's and Testament's standout Thrash albums of the year but can we ever have enough good Thrash Metal?

Returning to 1987 and Rising From The Sea which featured a different vocalist, where Exhumer are off to a impressive start with "Winds Of Death". I do like how this one builds into another explosive Thrash song and there are many more to discover like the title track. This time around the band are alternating the tempo more so this album does have a slightly different feel to their debut. But they still retains that heaviness and if anything it adds more appeal to their songs, plus like any good thrash album their guitarists are working overtime and shredding to the max.
Rising From The Sea is another solid Exumer thrash album, and it makes you wonder how a third release may have turned out back then.
