Case - Open Letter (2001) ☠

AllMusic Review by Jon Azpiri
Despite releasing two promising albums, Case's third effort, Open Letter, is as bland as they come. While trying to tell stories of heartbreak and loss, Case fails to generate any genuine emotion. Most of the tracks on the album use tired R&B arrangements featuring generic synthesizer and rhythm tracks. The sole exception is "Missing You," a respectable ballad that blends piano and acoustic guitar with lyrics that convey genuine heartache. Case tries to throw some upbeat tracks into the mix with typical booty-shaking songs like "Sex Games," but those tracks are just as mediocre as the ballads. For his third album, Case fails to create even one original moment; perhaps this Open Letter should have never been written.
