  • Update (9/15/2020)
Comments are still disabled due the on going updates but users can now request updates for dead links and, thanks to Lass, requests for AAC links. That's right, any post on this website that does not include an AAC link can now be requested. If you're looking an AAC link on a post that contains 2 FLAC links, request an AAC llink - it will be provided to you. Please understand that this process is on going and slow and it will remain that way until it is done. We want to have the website updated before the end of the year so please do help us out. The form below contains all of the information you need before submitting a request for an AAC or a request to update a dead link. Please read it carefully. Before anyone asks - this is not a form where you can request an album. This website does not accept requests for albums or other music - we never will so don't bother.

* Comments are currently disabled until the website is fully back online *

1.) Issues with our domain: We were currently experiencing problems with our domain, namely the CNAME records. Those issues have now been solved but our problems don't stop here.

2.) DMCA takedowns: There have been several DMCA take down requests filed for the following artists/bands:

.Deep Purple
.The Rolling Stones
.Queen
.R.E.M
.Helloween
.Gamma Ray
.Saxon
.Krokus

Because of this, these entries have been deleted and will no longer be featured on this website. Please do not ask for these entries to return. It will not happen.

3.) Vinyl rips have been postponed until next year: The big surprise for this year has been moved for 2021. A suitable scanner for the records sleeves (album covers) cannot be found during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The staff has tried book scanners but they have failed in producing an acceptable scan of the record sleeves. Until the pandemic has been brought under control where the staff can physically find an acceptable scanner in person, there will be no Vinyl rips on this website.

4.) Changes in AAC files: We are not removing the AAC files. We will continue to provide AAC files but we will no longer use the QAAC encoder but instead Apple's native AAC encoder found in iTunes. The AAC settings as well as the results via spectrum images are provided below.

Settings used within iTunes
Bitrate: 256 kbps, CBR (Constant Bitrate)

Sample rate: 44.100 kHz

Audio will be in Stereo as opposed to being in Joint Stereo.

 The Extension will be .M4A

- Spectrum images -

FLAC: CD rip, 16 bit, 44.100 kHz, Stereo
AAC (Apple) via iTunes encoder: 256 kbps, CBR, 44.100 kHz, Stereo
MP3 via Lame Encoder: 320 kbps, CBR, 44.100 kHz, Stereo

The explanation: The reason behind this change: A recent in the way iTunes is downloaded and distributed has made using the QAAC encoder through Foobar2000 impossible. iTunes is now downloaded through the Microsoft Store for Windows users. It is now an app as opposed to a program. Since none of us use the pathetic Microsoft store, the most current version of iTunes cannot be downloaded. To understand why this is a problem, you need to understand how the QAAC encoder works.

QAAC needs iTunes to be installed in order for one to use it in Foobar2000. This of course makes no sense since QAAC is not an Apple encoder. The reason why someone would want to use a different AAC encoder is because they don't like Apple's AAC encoder found in iTunes.

We converted the original FLAC CD rips to AAC via Foobar2000 - something that not possible on Windows PC's since iTunes does not support FLAC.

The only way way we can convert lossless to lossy on iTunes would be if we were to convert the FLAC files to WAV and then convert the WAV files to AAC. WAV however does not save or store an metadata/tags from the FLAC files or in general, meaning we would have to put all of that information back into the files and sort them again from scratch.

ALAC (Apple Lossless) to AAC is possible but like AAC conversions within Foobar2000, it too requires iTunes to be installed which brings back to the same problem we originally had with QAAC & Foobar2000.

We've found out the iTunes has native AIFF support. AIFF is a lossless format. It requires no additional software or extensions to work properly within Foobar2000. The FLAC files will be converted to AIFF first then converted to AAC in iTunes using the settings listed above.

The draw back here is time. It takes Foobar2000 some time to convert FLAC to AIFF and the AAC encoder within iTunes is much slower than QAAC is in Foobar2000. On a positive note, we can still provide high quality AAC files since the only real difference between Apple's native encoder over QAAC is speed. Both encoders produce high quality lossy versions at a lower bitrate than the MP3 does at 320 kbps.

Since we don't have to worry about the Vinyl rips for the time being, we're hoping that this lag will not slow us down very much. If it does, I'm sorry to say but there are no converter out there right now that can use QAAC without iTunes being installed and the same problems that currently exist with Foobar2000 exists with every other encoder with the exception of FRE:AC. FRE:AC uses it's own native AAC but it does not support CBR, only VBR and this is unacceptable.

The rest of the website will remain unchanged. The rules, guidelines etc... will remain in effect when we return. It's been a horrid 2020 so far. If anyone out there chooses to leave, we understand. Our goal is to salvage the remainder of 2020 so that we can have a better 2021 - god willing.

  • News (8/10/2020)
Where we are - I'm fairly certain that everyone who browses this website has noticed a sharp decline in new publications. Restrictions that were put into place due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation are still affecting the staff members on a personal level. Lass is still at her parents house while Sentinel is still caring for family members in need. Buccaneer has also taken this time to be close to his family, namely his wife and child. Another factor is also disrupting the current flow of the website but it's something that was planned for 2020 and it currently close to becoming a reality.

What is currently happening behind the scenes: It was previously mentioned by Buccaneer that Vinyl rips were going to be a big surprise for 2020. This is still going to happen. Buccaneer and Sentinel were going to be the 2 main suppliers of Vinyl rips since they own the most records. Because of the current predicament, Sentinel may be the sole supplier for the time being. Lass doesn't personally own any records but since she is currently staying with her parents, she has been helping them, specifically her mother, digitize her record collection.

If  you follow Lass's posts, you'll know that she has a sizeable collection of 80's Synth Pop and New Wave music. Much if not all of what she is currently digitizing is of the same genre. While I have not received confirmation that she will be a supplier for the upcoming Vinyl section, I do know that she is currently using the same digital turntable that Sentinel and Buccaneer have purchased the year prior. Sentinel is currently digitizing some of his records as well and is experimenting with different settings. I was told that Sentinel is very confident that his current settings produce quality rips - so much that Lass is also using the same settings for her parents rips.

To avoid any mishaps and errors, the staff will be using the same digital turntable model as well as the same settings for the new Vinyl section. The model of the turntable, the settings that were used, photographs of both the records and the turntable will also be provided to everyone via the FAQ's section when the section goes online. This of course brings us to the next problem the staff is currently facing - cover art. Because the pandemic has disrupted the parcel service, the staff have been unable to find, purchase or order a scanner large enough and with a resolution high enough for the record sleeves to be scanned. Until an acceptable scanner or something else can be found, the Vinyl rips are currently on hold.

I received word from Sentinel that he may have found a work around to this. His goal is to begin publishing Vinyl rips within the next week. The first set of rips will be specifically tailored to our Mexican/Latin American audience. Other genres in his possession will also be published later on. The reason for this delay is due to Sentinel's desire to grow both that audience and those styles of music since, according to him "that style of music is for a specific audience"

Lastly, the staff has confirmed that only albums that were only released on Vinyl will make the final cut. That's right. Vinyl rips of albums that are already featured on this website will not be provided. So if you were expecting a Vinyl rip of say, Cyndi Lauper's "She's So Unusual" you are not going to get it. There will be exceptions but only slight ones. An example would be "Pentagram" by Pentagram. As in "Pentagram" not "Relentless" as I was told the latter features a different mix that was never reissued on CD. If Lass decides to be a supplier to the new Vinyl section, than some of her CD's that are too scratched to produce clean rips will receive a pass. I was told that "Rhyme & Reason" by Missing Persons falls into this category. With that being said, should this happen, a CD rip will not be published for that album or any other album where the Vinyl rip goes up first.

Where we want to be during the next few weeks: If the Vinyl situation is resolved or is put on hold, expect more output from the staff. Lass has confirmed that she will be ripping the remaining Grunge CD's that she has in her possession - mostly music from the Sub Pop record label. If you're a fan of Grunge, Sub Pop or both, this is something to look forward to. Sentinel has confirmed that he will begin to rip the rest of his R&B collection as well.

Please understand. Although there is so much that the staff members want to do for Mediasurf, it is currently difficult for them because of the current Pandemic. Above all else, the true goal is to salvage the remainder of 2020 since the beginning of the year proved to be the worst in the website's history. If the Vinyl section must be put on hold, the staff will do it. Increased output is what they currently want and what Mediasurf needs. We thank you all for your continued support and patience

Firefox users beware: Aggressive technical support scams have been spotted on Firefox. We urge users not to use Firefox to view any Adfly links on this site. Sentinel is currently tracking these tech support scams. Chrome remains unaffected as Google has patched the browser with an HTML Evil Cursor blocker but it will be monitored as well. Sentinel is currently reporting all of these tech support scams to the Feed The Phish team and they have since begun call flooding those numbers. They have also taken the liberties of reporting these to Google's Safebrowsing. Publications will continue as normal.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing up in certain areas, the staff members, specifically Sentinel & Lass are taking this time so that they can provide their family members with help and other essential services. Although Lass has been staying at her parents house during the course of the pandemic, she will be returning to her home briefly to retrieve some of her belongings. Sentinel will take this time to aid a family member due to a medical emergency. Please allow the staff the time and day to complete these important tasks. All comments and confirmed update requests will be analyzed by the bot and published tomorrow afternoon, 6/14/2020 when the website resumes its operations.

The End of Hip-Hop on Mediasurf.ch. It wasn't exactly the easiest of conversations but we finally took a vote. It's over. 6/6/2020 marks the end of Hip-Hop on Mediasurf. Sentinel has made his feelings public in the past as have I but Lass has chosen to remain silent but rest assured, we all voted in favor of it's removal. The amount of resources that were being wasted no longer justified in us keeping it any longer. Rude, stubborn, lacking common sense, toxic, and disrespectful, especially when they don't get their way. That is what the Hip-Hop community became during the end of 2019 up until now. When they receive their downloads for free, we were the best, when it came time to enforce the guidelines that most of them ignored, we were awful human beings. We will ignore them as well. We don't want praise or recognition. We've never asked for it. We just wanted them to respect our guidelines. There are limitations that come with a free website. It's time to move on.

The original Hip-Hop community that we had some 6 years ago was made up of an older demographic, one that was kinder but those were also different times. They have since left when the newer demographic started to make their presence known. All Hip-Hop music and Hip-Hop related material such as soundtracks and compilations have now been deleted from the website. Half of the year has already been lost due to the problems COVID-19 has caused around the world. The problems within the Hip-Hop section just made everything worse for the site. No longer will the site move to a Premium based style. It will remain as it currently is, free. Part of the decision go Premium was in fact due to the tremendous resources that were being spent on the Hip-Hop section. With that out of the way, we should be able to continue as we are, undisturbed.

Given the track record of the current audience, they might not read this post and will leave comments asking as to what happened to all of the Hip-Hop related entries. We will ignore you. This post will will remain at the top of the website until you get the message.

I would like to apologize to Sentinel & Lass. They not only put in their time but also their absolute best. Part of the reason why I didn't remove it right away was out of respect to the many hours they committed into making it a great section. - It didn't have to be like this.

We will do our best to make the remainder of 2020 great. That's all we can hope to do.

I apologize in advanced for the awful news but it seems our Spam Bot has now shut down the comments section within the Hip-Hop section. I just received the report in my inbox from our Spam Detector bot but I, unfortunately, cannot provide any more details other than the screenshots that were sent to me by the bot. The new Spam Detector bot does not send the staff members any responses or enforcement measures it takes when the guidelines aren't meant. It is programmed to only send the confirmed dead link reports and standard comments. Everything else is not sent to the staff, speeding up the process for other material to be published. I also do not have access to the records so I am unclear as to what happened exactly but given the screenshots that were sent, I'd say it has to do with the guidelines not being met. Keep in mind that because the other responses aren't sent, we no longer know or monitor what goes on within the Hip-Hop section or any of the remaining sections. As it stands, the bot states "6 days" so the comments section will be restored on Wednesday, June 10, 2020

There is currently a glitch within the Adfly login system. The login either fails or resets after 10 minutes. This doesn't affect the download process but current publication output and links updates will be slower than normal. All current update requests are being processed but as a reminder, it is being done slower than usual. We apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Update (5/18/2020)
The issue below has now been resolved at least for now. Staff member Sentinel will continue to monitor the links for any suspicious adverts.

- End

  • News (5/17/2020)
Another step forward but 2 steps were take backwards. An advert for "Open Download Manager" has been reported by Staff member Sentinel numerous times in the past. Due to Adfly's horrific support department, these adverts which promote potentially unwanted software (PUP's) were not taken down. Sentinel being the ever so persistent person that he is decided to submit both the link and the actual software to Google's Safebrowsing website. This successfully blocked the website but by doing this, the Safebrowsing warning has also blocked the advert which means that one cannot pass it to reach the download destination without reloading the advert numerous times until a different advert is present. This unfortunately will not go away until Adfly realizes what has happened which given their track record, I cannot guarantee everyone that it will be fixed within a few hours or even by tomorrow. One must simply wait or refresh/reload the advert until something else appears.

This is yet another reason why Buccaneer has decided to move us away from Adfly. Over the 6 years we've been online in our current form, an ungodly amount of time and resources were spent tracking, reporting and submitting various reports of phishing adverts and scams. The service has proven to be both incompetent and quite frankly, lazy. They are fully aware of this problem and this has been told to us numerous times when ever a report was sent to their abuse department. However they simply do not check the adverts no matter how many times they claim that they do. The giant flaw in this argument is that there is a 24 hour period of review for the advert - supposedly to prevent fraud. However once that time period has passed, the scammers on the other side can fully change the advert into a phishing campaign - which Adfly is also aware of and they refuse to check the adverts after the original 24 hour evaluation period has ended. How do we know about these changes? They told us about it. In their words "it's a constant battle" but it's one that they have placed on themselves for their continued laziness and tolerance of their advertisers abusive behavior.

The pornographic adverts are also still a consistent problem and just like the phishing campaigns, Adfly has done nothing about this. Sentinel has spent more time tracking the and reporting adverts that violate Adfly's supposed "terms of service" then he has ripping his CD's and publishing materiel for this website.

We are well aware that we will lose a large amount of traffic once the Premium change is made but this is a sacrifice that we are now willing to take. We have an improved bot, a cooperating Hip-Hop section but we still don't have the time we originally had. Why? Because of this. This issue will not go away. We have tried to clean up a service that does not wish to be cleaned so we will move one. Link shorteners will never return once the Premium change has been made. We are sorry that many will leave us but it's time to move on. The change will not happen right away as we still don't have a date. We will notify everyone 1 week in advanced when the change will be made. It's time to move on.

  • News (5/13/2020)
Here at Mediasurf, we had a section called "feed the phish" which served as a graveyard for all of the malicious adverts that staff member Sentinel has found and reported over the years. These included Microsoft technical support scams as well as other phishing adverts. Earlier today, we received a comment a from a group of individuals who claimed to have a blog called "Feed The Phish"

Feed The Phish.blogspot.com

The comment wasn't about a take down notice in regards to the name but rather a friendly gesture from the Phish team. They want to help not just us but other bloggers/sites that use Adfly or other link shortening services. How? By tracking, publishing and reporting theses malicious adverts to the proper websites such as Google's Safe-browsing, ESET, Norton, Scumware.org, Scammerblaster etc... websites that specialize in this field and websites that take the necessary precautions to either flag, remove or update their databases so that these websites are blocked by their respected software.

They are well aware of the current phishing adverts that plague Adfly's "Push adverts" feature so the team has asked us to for 2 things.

1.) They requested an Adfly link from us that has the "push adverts" feature turned on.

2.) Space and or a direct link of their site on ours.
We here at Mediasurf have granted the Phish team their requests. Our "Feed The Fish" section will now redirect to their blog instead and our section itself has been discontinued. This is a huge step forward as we no longer have the added stress of tracking these scam adverts. Although we granted the Phish team an Adfly link that has the "Push Adverts" feature turned on, we would like to state right now that we are not bringing this feature back to Mediasurf - ever. A special link has been granted to the Phish team and only the Phish team.

We would also like to state that they are in no way, shape or form affiliated with us. This is purely coincidental. The Phish team is currently on blogger but they hope to grow and expand their blog to a full fledged website on a proper domain.

This unfortunately will not stop the transition from Mediasurfer.ch being free to being premium download based. This news while great, came just a tad bit too late. We are still very happy that such a team of people could come together and provide further assistance to others  especially in these difficult times.

The website will experience an extended off hours period. The bot will be disabled. Request for all updates have been disabled. Comments have also been disabled. This is due to 2 reasons.

- Due to the global pandemic, Staff member Lass who is currently at her parents house, will be making arrangements to retrieve more of her belonging from her home so that they can be brought to her at her parents house. Because of the pandemic, Lass has been staying with her parents at their home to both care and help with certain activities such as grocery shopping and other important errands that require someone to leave their home. She will be offline for the entire day.

- Staff member Sentinel, whose area had severe cases of COVID-19, must take a leave due to personal reasons. Much like Lass, a family member of his is in need. We will respect Sentinel's privacy and not reveal any more details.

We are expected to be back online at 100% on Sunday, 4/26/2020. I ask that everyone to kindly give the staff the time they need to address their personal matters.

Update: Buccaneer talks about the future of Mediasurf.

As the captain of this website, I have now decided to make my final decision in regards to the future of this website and the fate of the Hip-Section. I have received 1 vote from Sentinel in favor of removing it due to the amount of resources that are currently being wasted which in turn, affects the rest of the website. Sentinel has stated that as it is now, the problem will not go away unless the entire section is removed and everyday he is proven correct.. I have received 1 vote to stay out of any decision making from Lass. My final decision is that the entire website must change... and that means we will move away from free downloads and into "Premium downloads"

That's right. Hip-Hop will stay but there will be no more Adfly and all visitors will have to pay to download from this website. Why? There are many reasons and the Hip-Hop section is the main culprit. This change will not happen right away, it will take time. The world itself is still in a pandemic. We are still directly affected as is most of visitors. We're still going through this. Once we, as people, as in society, stabilize, then we will make the transition. But as of right now, we will continue as we are, with free downloads via Mega.nz and Adfly. When things begin to return to normal, I will announce the change. I am currently looking at Florenfile as a possible host. Not everyone will like this change. It pains me to know that after 6 years of being the free alternative, it must come to an end and the most absurd way as well. The community we've built, the visitors who have always followed our guidelines, the one's who were there from the beginning, those are the one's that I am the most sad for because I know that this will be the end for them. I know that we have lost them for good.  We never wanted to go premium. We've been serving our audience for 6 strong years as a free alternative and were damn proud of it, relying on the generosity of of our users and their donations via bitcoin which still occurs today!. That can no longer be a reality.

We've done all we can in regards to trying to get the Hip-Hop audience to cooperate. Nothing has worked and nothing will work. We simply cannot continue as we are with the amount of resources that are being used up. I'm sure some have read this before but now it's time everyone knew what is actually happening behind the scenes.

(1.) The bot and its resources.

Screenshots from the bot's archives detailing the many failures of the Hip-Hop section.

65% of all errors, mistakes, not following guidelines etc... are from the Hip-Hop section alone. once more, that's 65%

The bot works like this. When a user reports a dead link, the bot will read the comment and then check the link in question. The bot does this a total of 10 times to ensure the claim is both true and to eliminate the possibility of an error by the bot's own accord. If the claim is true, the bot will publish the comment and proceed to move on the the next comment. Thee problems begin like this. An example is when a user reports a link that is not offline. When this happens, the bot checks the claim, same as before, 10 times, records a screen capture demonstrating that the links are still online, submits it to imgur.com, gathers additional information for the user because they've made an error, , deletes the original comment and then publishes the report. After all of this, the bot finally moves on to the next comment. Now, multiply that same error by 20.

Now that's just one type of error.  More problems occur when the users who report dead links don't specify which of the 2 links are dead. As in, the publication contains a FLAC link and an AAC link.
all of these examples are actual comments left by users of the Hip-Hop section and they almost always occur in publications that contain 2 different links. Same as before, the bot will verify if the claims are true by checking the comment a total of 10 times with each passing time, checking to make sure the post has either 1 link or 2 different links. Now multiply this problem by 20 times. Now we have a serious problem because the staff for every 1 comment that a user leaves that properly specifies to the bot which link is down, there's 20 more that don't and there's another 20 that claim that links are offline when they are not. This in turn slows down the amount of content the staff can submit because the bot spends more time and resources with these comments than submitting the genuine comments that properly request updates.

This never stops and all of this, the majority of it comes from the hip-Hop section. The remaining 35% of all errors come from the rest website. That means that the rest of the genres combined, only make up 35% of these errors. For those that use the Dolphin browser and were reviving errors, this matter was kindly brought to us by a user and a screenshot was submitted to the FAQ's section. The information is there and has always been there. The majority of that audience simply doesn't care.

(2.) I've grown tired of Adfly and it's practices.

Up until recently, we've had severe problems with Adfly in regards to their inability to remove many Microsoft Technical Support scams on their service. We took it upon ourselves to report these to Adfly which in turn, have been removed (for the most part) However at this time, these adverts are no longer the problem. Now it the increase in pornographic content which Adfly claims is in direct violation of their terms of service.

No matter how many times we report these to Adfly, the same pornographic adverts still continue to appear on their adverts. It has gotten to the point that we've reported so many within the last year and the beginning of this year that all of our emails are now blocked from Adfly's report abuse email address. Every time we try to submit a report, complete with Screenshots! which is what they ask for! the message is blocked by them meaning that they are well aware of this problem and no matter how many times they claim to not allow these types of adverts, they would rather keep them than to do their job and remove them. This is beyond unacceptable and more time is being spent tracking and reporting these adverts than the actual practice of publishing content which is already hindered due to repeated disregard for our guidelines by the Hip-Hop section. I can no longer continue to have this website or my associates operate under these conditions.

(3.) The introduction of Vinyl rips.

Myself & Sentinel have many releases that were only ever released on Vinyl records and moving them into the Premium territory is the only way we can have those on Mediasurf since Adfly is now plagued with pornographic content. The introduction of our Vinyl rips was actually supposed to be the big surprise for 2020 but due to the conditions laid out above - that didn't happen. Once more, we are not talking about the Vinyl pressings of the albums that are already available on Mediasurf, we're talking about albums, E.Ps, singles etc.. that are only available on Vinyl from various generes, Hip-Hop included. Myself & Sentinel were able to buy turntables that can digitally rip the records into FLAC. These rips, just like many of our rips here on Mediasurf, will contain photographs of the records as well as AAC versions for those that want them. Once the change to premium occurs, we will begin publishing those rips.

. All of this will take time and it will not happen overnight. As things are now, this will definitely happen and I do not fault anyone who wishes to leave and never return but based on what I have laid out, it must happen.

The above screenshots were taken moments ago by the Spam bot in the Hip-Hop section. As of 4/19/2020, the grand total of complete disregard for this bulletin and the website's rules and guidelines by the Hip-Hop section is 12.

. Screenshot of a response by Sentinel to a visitor who commented on this very feed.
"As someone who was a part of that community for a long time, Claude has a point but that's nether here nor there. If anyone wants my honest opinion, I'm in favor of Buck closing down the Hip-Hop section if he chooses to. It's not worth keeping or defending it anymore. As time passes, Victor will continue to post more screenshots becasue the problem will not go away.

If Buck decides to eliminate the Hip-Hop section, he has my vote 100%. If Buck decides to go with his second plan, meaning he keeps the Hip-Hop section but will make a drastic change to the entire website, then he has my vote, 100% It's time we moved on as a team and as a website.

If my words make the audience of the Hip-Hop section upset, all I an say is blame on the people that are present in the screenshots and blame it the people who got the Hip-Hop section banned the first time.

I will keep my word and finish out the rest of the year, publishing as much as I can but unless something is drastically done, don't expect me to return in 2021 and if that should happen, there won't be a Hip-Hop section in 2021. That is a fact. Enjoy it now becasue it's days as it is now are numbered."
- For visitors who are asking, "why not just remove the option to post as Anonymous" We can't. That option is still available because it makes it easy for our Bot to track and eliminate spam & link bot comments. They always post as Anonymous becasue they are programed to. It's an easy kill for our Bot. This also won't change the fact that people in the Hip-Hop section simply don't use common sense when reporting a dead link. It's the same old story. They don't specify as to what exactly is down. We no longer accept comments as Anonymous due to severe past abuse by the Hip-Hop section. Unfortunately, everything seems to come back to the Hip-Hop section. No matter how much awareness we raise in attempts to keep the section open, more and more visitors simply don't care and don't read or see what's directly in front of them. With that, Sentinel has cast his vote and it's 1 vote against keeping the Hip-Hop section open. Sentinel will still publish content for those that have always followed our guidelines but unless drastic changes are made, there will be no Hip-Hop section in 2021. Sentinel has stated that he will not return at the end of the year if changes aren't made. Lass has gone on record saying she will not participate in a Hip-Hop section without Sentinel. Unless Buck decides to implement his plans before or during the beginning of 2021, this guarantees the elimination of the Hip-Hop section in 2021.

Taken moments ago by the Spam bot in the Hip-Hop section.

- Sentinel has returned to the website. Though we are happy to know that our friend is well, we are saddened to know that his future with us is uncertain. As we've previously shared, the pandemic was far worse in his area than it was for the rest of the staff. Due to things far beyond his control, Sentinel was directly affected. Out of respect for our friend's privacy, the details of our conversation will not be disclosed. What we can tell you is that Sentinel has agreed to finish out the remainder of the year. With that being said, the website is now back to normal.

Attention: To all of the visitor's of the Hip-Hop section, that means that the rules of the website are still in effect. This is your final warning! The rules will be published on this bulletin as a last ditch effort to keep you informed. After which, the rules will be displayed in the FAQ's section, where they have always been present. Buccaneer is now acquiring data from Spam Bot in regards to the Hip-Hop section. The future of the Hip-Hop section is now in the hands of all the visitors who browse that section. Continued failure to follow the guidelines/rules of this website may result in the elimination of the Hip-Hop section, for good. Buccaneer will make his final decision based on the amount of resources the Spam Bot has consumed in regards to that section's continuous failure to follow the rules of this website.

For mobile users, this bulletin will be up for 1 week before being archived and transferred to our News feeds. The information provided in this bulletin applies to every visitor in every section of this website. No excuses! You either read this bulletin and follow through or be served by the Spam bot.

Update! Taken moments ago on a new entry written by Sentinel in the Hip-Hop section. The future of this section is in the hands of the visitors that browse it. (4/15/2020)

Rules

This information is also available in the FAQ's section.

*We do not take requests.

All requests left in the comments section will be deleted by the Spam Bot. This is not subject to change.

*We are no longer accepting comments under the name "Anonymous"

(All comments are published automatically once they are cleared by our bot)
Because of continued abuse, all comments under the name "Anonymous" will automatically be deleted by our Spam bot. You are now required to chose a name before you comment. It can be any name - it doesn't have to be associated with a social media/blogger account. The name can be changed at any given time and no registration is required. Below are several screenshots on how to go about it. Please note that the URL portion of the form does not have to be filled out. It can be left blank and your comment will be published after it is cleared by our Spam bot.
*Reporting Dead Links/Requesting AAC links*
(*All comments are publsihed automatically once they are cleared by our bot*)
If there are 2 different links present as in 1 FLAC link and 1 AAC link, if you don't specify which link is down, your comment will be flagged as spam and it will be deleted by our bot. We cannot help you if you don't specify your needs. The same will happen if you decide to report a link that is online as "dead" or "not working" Requesting AAC links is also not allowed. If there is no AAC link present, one will not be provided upon request. Requesting AAC links that are not present will result in users having their comments targeted as Spam by our bot. If FLAC links are present and are offline, an AAC link will be provided during the next confirmed update. You've been warned! Think before you comment. Failure to comply will result in users being served by our bot. Screenshots and video proof are provided by our bot when a link is falsely reported as "dead" or "offline" as a response.

*Mega.nz's 5GB Daily Quota & Abuse of Updates*

Mediasurfer.ch is free for all users. However when using a free service there are several draw backs. One of these drawbacks is the download quota. Mega.nz has a daily 5 GB download quota. This means that users can download 5 GB's worth of data everyday for 24 hours at a time. When users have downloaded 5GB's of data, they will not be able to download any additional data until the quota is reset by Mega.nz. This process takes approximately 24 hours from the time of your last download. This restriction is enforced by Mega.nz, not by us. Another drawback of this daily quota, is the limit enforced by our bot as to how many requests for a confirmed link that is offline a user may place. This is determined by our bot and is relevant to the size of the files the user has requested an update for. Simply put, the bigger the file, the less you can request. Once the total number of requests for updated links reaches or exceeds 5 GB's users will no longer be able to request further updates. Once you reach this limit, you will be notified by our bot. Read this very carefully! If you continue to request for updates after exceeding 5 GB's, you will be banned from commenting for 72 hours. No exceptions. If users persist and continue to request for updates under different profiles, and additional ban of 24 hours will be placed on you for your attempts. Don't try it. The bot will find you. We don't believe in "premium downloads" Mega.nz and in some cases, Bayfiles, are the default link providers of this website because they are free to use.

*The recommended browsers for this website are Google Chrome & Opera

This is an error that is displayed when viewing the download page on the Dolphin mobile browser. It is not present on Google Chrome. The Dolphin error will appear even if a link is still online. (Screenshot submitted by user: Gar.)

Update: Buccaneer is currently online and is in the process of publishing new content along with Lass. 2 staff members are now online and will remain so unless stated otherwise. All publications written by Lass or Buccaneer can receive updates. We still have not heard from Sentinel. We are hopeful that he is doing well and that he will return once the pandemic is under control. Once more: All publications that read "By Lass" or "By Buccaneer" can receive updates. If a publications reads "By Sentinel" they cannot receive updates since neither Lass or Buccaneer have access to those entries.

Update: Lass has currently finished updating several entries with new FLAC & AAC links. She is currently offline and will return tomorrow afternoon on 4/10/202. The Spam Bot has also been taken offline to conserve resources. All comments will be published tomorrow, 4/10/2020 when the bot is brought back online. Update: Lass is currently the only staff member available. The rest of the staff are currently away with their families and away from of their homes, libraries etc.. due to the global crisis happening around us. Once the entire staff is able to come back online, I will report it to everyone via the News section. Comments of course are still open but the Bot will not publish any comments requesting updates from publications written by staff members, Sentinel & Buccaneer. All resources and Virtual Machines must be conserved during this time period. Have a heart but most importantly, a pair of eyes and read this bulletin. These are stressful times. Please don't make it more stressful than it has to be. Stay home and stay safe.

I have received confirmation from staff member Lass that she will be returning to the website within 1-2 days from now. Lass left her home and has been staying with her parents at their home, aiding them by doing all of their groceries and other activities that require someone to step outside/drive. She will return to her home to gather some of her belongings before heading back to her parents home where she will stay until the Pandemic is over or until it is brought under control. Her area was hit quite hard by the pandemic as was Sentinel's, whom we still have not heard from. Seeing as how several users might get excited by her return - I ask that you don't.

Lass will be online publishing new content, yes but she cannot update Sentinel's or Buccaneer's files as she has no direct access to those files. In other words, she can only update her publications - not the entire website. If the author/publisher of a certain publication doesn't read "Lass" she will not and cannot update those publications. I must reiterate this again because I am very sure that Hip-Hop audience will not read this clearly: If the author/publisher of a certain publication does not read/say "Lass" those publications will not be updated.
*I have programmed the bot to not publish any comments that request an update for a publication that wasn't written by Lass.*

Lass will do her best but I ask all of you - do not make this difficult for her. Don't ask for any updates until Lass has returned. They will be ignored. Read this news bulletin and follow the rules of this website. For any new users out there that may not have seen/read the rules of this website, I have enclosed a link to the FAQ's section and several screenshots below to get you started. I urge all new users to get acquainted with the rules as it will aid you tremendously.

Since I have now experienced first hand the dilemma that the other staff members have faced in regards to several visitors not reading the News bulletins that are present on the side bar of this website, I have decided to act and publish it as a post instead.  It can be found here The following information is available on the website's side bar as "news" and it will remain there since it is visible everywhere on this website.

There are currently no staff members available to update any links. All of them are currently away with their families and away from of their homes, libraries etc.. due to the global crisis happening around us. Once the staff is able to come back online, I will report it to everyone via the News section. Staff member Lass has set an automated schedule for several publications that she planned to publish the week prior. This automated system will continue to published pre-written posts left by Lass. Other than that, no new publications will be published. Comments of course are still open but the Bot will not publish any comments requesting updates. All resources and Virtual Machines must be conserved in this downtime. Once more, no updates can occur during this downtime so please, do not ask or leave such comments. Have a heart but most importantly, a pair of eyes and read this bulletin. These are stressful times. Staff member Sentinel is currently investigating the Adfly links on Mozilla Firefox. As of the time of this writing, a tremendous amount of adult content and other unwanted adverts that are in violation or Adfly's "terms of service" are being reported and are currently being taken offline. The staff took a vote today & unanimously agreed to remove all associated entries with links to Bayfiles. Due to continuous comments stating that the files could not be downloaded, the staff attempted numerous time to recreate the alleged errors & were never able to do so. Most of these comments/visitor errors - some of which are not related to the Bayfiles issue, have come from the Hip-Hop section. A section that time & time again has failed & continues to fail in regards to the rules of this website & just failing in general. Artists such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West - all of which had links to Bayfiles, have been eliminated from this website. The same applies to the other genres with links to Bayfiles. Bands like Radiohead will never be featured on this website. Bayfiles was the only way those artists/bands could be featured on here but that ship has sailed. We are moving on. This marks the second time that these artists have been eliminated from this website. There will not be a 3rd time.

The Hip-Hop section has been restored. Lets get this ship back on the open seas. For those using the Dolphin browser on mobile, it is recommended that you not download on Dolphin as the Mega.nz page will display an error message that is not present on Chrome mobile. The recommended browsers for this website are Chrome and Opera. A screenshot of the error can be found bellow.

Further deliberation between my 2 associates took place this afternoon about the fate of the Hip-Hop section. Although new information has been brought to my attention about errors from the Mega.nz page when viewed on the mobile browser "Dolphin" these errors are not related to the past offenses committed by users that browse this part of our website. However, after 4 hours of deliberation my associates have convinced me that the current ban of the Hip-Hop section should be reduced - and it has. The ban ends tomorrow, Thursday, 2/13/2020. For those using the Dolphin browser on mobile, it is recommended that you not download on Dolphin as the Mega.nz page will display an error message that is not present on Chrome mobile. The recommended browsers for this website are Chrome and Opera. For those that browse the Hip-Hop section, consider this your last warning. Read the FAQ's section before leaving comments. It will save you lots of trouble. Comments under the user name "Anonymous" are no longer accepted. You are now required to select a name, any name. Below are screenshots detailing the Dolphin mobile browser error and how to select a username when commenting. To the veteran users of this website, I sincerely and humbly apologize for the inconvenience.

After much deliberation with my 2 associates, I have decided to restore the comments section for everyone. However, because most of the violations were committed by 1 person in 1 section, I have decided to suspend the Hip-Hip section in its entirety as the same person has continued to flat out ignore the warnings presented in front of him/her. The original ban for all of the comments section has now been placed on the Hip-Hop section. There will be no access to the Hip-Hop section until February 18 2020. To every user that visits the Hip-Hop section, this is your last warning. Recent analysis confirms that many of the rules are broken and disregarded in the Hip-Hop section the most. Continued failure to comply with our rules will result in this and any other section where these offenses are committed to be taken offline. It's your call. Requests for updates can be made once more for every available section of this website.

You couldn't make this up even if you tried. Ignorance is bliss and the same person who extended the ban until the 16th of February, has now added an additional 24 hours to the existing ban. The comments and requests for updates will be back online on February 17 2020. Keep it going guys. This affects you - not us. We do sincerely apologize to those that have followed the rules and have enjoyed their experiences on this website. It's not your fault, it's the users that lack common sense that have ruined the experience for everyone.

That's right boys and girls, the same user that failed to read what was in front of him/her has returned. As a result, the comment ban and update ban has been extended for another 72 hours. The comments section will be back online on 2/16/2020. Why? Lack of commons sens. Continued disregard for the rules, falsely reporting 1 link as "dead" and exceeding the daily 5GB quota from Mega.nz. None of the links that were reported during the ban will be updated. Enjoy your stay.

Due to the recent and continuous disregard for the rules of this website, a new penalty has been introduced and has been enforced. Any 1 user who now fails to both read and understand the rules that are found here will result in the entire comments section being completely disabled for 48 hours. That means no one can leave any comments, which in turn means no one can request an update for dead links. As of right now, the comments are disabled until Monday, 2/10/2020. This due the complete lack of common sense by several users. It only takes 1 person to screw up and completely disable the comments for everyone. The information presented in the disclaimer below this box as well as the FAQ's section is for your benefit, not ours. All confirmed dead links that were reported prior will be updated accordingly. The party's over.

News: Due to a barrage of Microsoft technical support scams and other phishing pages, the Adfly notifications that were present after the blue "click allow" screen has been passed will be disabled indefinably. This change will be implemented within the next few days. Although Sentinel has done tremendous work in removing the technical support scams from the standard Adfly ads, the other staff members have concluded that the Adfly notifications field has become too polluted to allow Sentinel to continue his work that field. Instead, they will have Sentinel work on just the Adfly ads while removing the notifications entirely. Although the extra revenue generated by the notifications was very good, the entire staff agrees that the revenue isn't worth the extra resources and most importantly, ruining the user experience. The community here is special and they do not want to risk losing or tampering with the user experience by keeping the notifications present. Adfly links will still be used only now, clicking on "Skip Ad "will lead users to their destination. Stay tuned for the full announcement within the next few days. News: A new tool has been added to our virtual machines in our war against phishing, malicious adverts and Microsoft technical support scams. More specifically, a new tool for the Google Chrome browser. "Suspicious Site Reporter" is an add-on that is available on the Chrome web store. Instead of having to now screenshot an advert and later submit it to Google's Safe Browsing, the browser extension does all of that for us with just a single click. If you're a Chrome user and would like to add this to your browser, you can find it here. Please note that the original method Sentinel has been using for phishing and other dangerous adverts will still be used for  Opera and Firefox as the extension is not available for those browsers. Thank you all for your continued support.

We will be experimenting with new cloud storage links in the form of "Bayfiles". Bayfiles has no bandwidth limits (perfect for large files!), speed limits, links are kept alive for longer periods of time and they have no download limits. Mega.nz doesn't allow Firefox users to download files over 530 mbs and there is a daily 5 gb quota. Bayfiles has no such restrictions. The current Mega links will still be available. From now on, if there are 2 different links present as in 1 FLAC link and 1 AAC link, if you don't specify which link is down, your comment will now go straight to the Spam folder. We cannot help you if you don't specify your needs. No more warnings and no exceptions will be made.

AAC updates for the Hip-Hop section have been completed. The next update will occur Sunday, 7/22/2018. Regular posting will resume today during the afternoon hours. As a reminder, AAC updates will occur on Sunday and only on Sunday. The only exception to this rule is if there are 2 FLAC links that are no longer online, in which case the staff will update the entry with 1 FLAC link and 1 AAC link. Visitors must also be sure that both FLAC links are offline before requesting an update. No other exceptions will be granted. We've lost 3 days due to constant false reporting of dead FLAC links that were actually online. If visitors only want an AAC link in the Hip-Hop section, they must wait until Sunday.

AAC links for the Hip-Hop section will begin today, 7/15/2018 during the afternoon. Regular posting will be suspended until Monday, 7/16/2018. Due to a mix up with the reporting of dead FLAC links that were actually still functional, we now ask that visitors only report which of the 2 links are dead.  The staff knows which entries contain AAC links, so we kindly ask all visitors to only report dead FLAC links. The schedule for new AAC links will be every Sunday and only on Sunday. Visitors who want AAC links for other entries must wait until the Hip-Hop section has been completely updated. If both FLAC links are down on a different entry, then the staff will update it with a FLAC link and an AAC link. We will no longer respond to comments that request AAC links to posts that do not have them, the Hip-Hop section included. These measures must be taken to allow the staff to catch up on lost time. We ask that everyone remain patient. New publications will resume on Monday.

We're currently under maintenance. The website still remains fully functional. We're currently addressing the issues with our Mega account giving our visitors a "terminated account/suspended" error page. Our account is still online and our links have not been reported nor have they been eliminated from our Mega account. We hope to have everything in order by tomorrow afternoon, 7/14/2018.

The final AAC updates for the "Soundtracks & Compilations" section have been completed. The next update will occur on Sunday, 6/10/2018 for the "Other Genres" section. Regular posting will resume today during the afternoon hours.

Due to a bug in our Spam folder moderation system, visitors who reported dead links have had their comments sent to the Spam folder without our knowledge. If you've reported a dead link via the comments section of a post, we ask that you kindly report it again so that we can fix as soon as possible during the afternoon hours. Our sincerest apologies.

- News: AAC Files

The AAC files (Advanced Audio Encoding) on this site are converted using the Apple based qaac 2.64, CoreAudioToolbox 7.10.9.0 encoder. The original FLAC files are CD, 16 bit, 44.100 kHz, stereo, digital audio files. The AAC files will use the following settings and will use the extension .M4A. The end result will be 1 FLAC link for lossless audio lovers and 1 lossy link for those who want smaller files instead.

1.) AAC-LC Profile (Low Complexity)

2.) Bit rate is 256 kbps, CBR (constant bit rate)

3.) All files will use Stereo mode instead of Joint Stereo mode.

AAC was designed to be the successor of the MP3 format which is why we chose it. Although MP3 is near universal, AAC support has increased. Virtually all modern mobile devices and PC's can play AAC files right out of the box. Although a good audio recording with excellent mastering is always what matters, AAC at a lower bitrate will more frequently achieve a better lossy version of the original source material when compared to an MP3 file at a higher bit rate. This will be the standard lossy format for this site. It is not subject to change. Below are some comparisons.

"Scream Machine" by Beyond Fear: Original FLAC file ripped from the C.D.
"Scream Machine" by Beyond Fear: Converted from FLAC to AAC, (256 kbps, CBR, Stereo) using the settings listed above.
"Scream Machine" by Beyond Fear: Converted from FLAC to MP3 (320 kbps, CBR, Stereo) using the LAME encoder, version 3.99.
